夜莺
The Nightingale

Once upon a time, there was a Chinese emperor who loved beautiful things.
从前,有一位中国皇帝,他非常喜爱美丽的事物。

He heard of a nightingale that sang so beautifully that it made people weep with joy.
他听说有只夜莺歌声美妙,能让人听得泪流满面。

The emperor ordered the nightingale to come and sing for him, and when the bird sang, the whole court was enchanted.
皇帝命令夜莺来为他歌唱,夜莺的歌声让整个宫廷的人都陶醉其中。

But the emperor became selfish and wanted the bird to remain in his palace forever.
但皇帝变得自私,想要夜莺永远留在宫里。

He placed the nightingale in a golden cage and ordered the bird to sing whenever he wanted.

At first, the nightingale sang gladly, but soon grew tired and sad in captivity.
