Sound Travels Through Air

Sound is created by vibrations.
声音是由振动产生的。

When something vibrates, it moves back and forth very quickly.
当物体振动时,它会快速地来回移动。

This movement makes the air around it vibrate too.
这种运动会让周围的空气也跟着振动。

The vibrating air creates sound waves.
振动的空气会产生声波。

These sound waves travel through the air to reach our ears.
这些声波通过空气传播到我们的耳朵。

Our ears pick up the sound waves, and our brain understands them as sounds.
我们的耳朵接收声波,然后大脑把它们理解成声音。

Sound can travel through air, water, and solid objects.
声音可以通过空气、水和固体传播。

That’s why we can hear people talking, birds singing, and music playing.

Underwater, sound can travel even faster than in air.

That’s why whales and dolphins can communicate over long distances in the ocean.

Without air, sound waves have nothing to travel through.
