During the Spring and Autumn Period, there was a minister in the State of Chu named Sun Heng.
春秋时期，楚国有位大臣，名叫孙衡。

He was responsible for managing the granary to ensure people had enough food.
他负责管理粮仓，确保百姓有足够的粮食。

That year, a severe drought hit Chu, causing cracked fields and reduced harvests.
那年，楚国大旱，田地干裂，粮食减产。

Many people had no food and came seeking relief.
许多百姓没有粮食吃，纷纷来请求赈济。

Sun Heng ordered the granary to be opened and distributed food fairly.
孙衡下令打开粮仓，公平分配粮食。

One day, his younger brother came to him in secret.
一天，他的弟弟悄悄来找他。

"Brother, our family is short on food. Can we get a little extra?"
“哥哥，家里粮不够，能不能多给一些？”

Sun Heng frowned and said, “The granary belongs to the state, not our family.”
孙衡皱了皱眉，说：“粮仓是国家的，不是我家的。”

His brother whispered, “You manage the grain; no one will know if you give us more.”
弟弟低声说：“你是管粮的，给自己家多些也没人知道。”

Sun Heng shook his head and said, “This food is for the people, and I must not show favoritism.”
孙衡摇头道：“那些粮是救百姓的，不能偏私。”

His brother left in frustration, complaining that Sun Heng was too stubborn.
弟弟不高兴地走了，回家抱怨孙衡太固执。

When the people heard about this, they praised Sun Heng for being selfless and fair.
百姓听说此事，纷纷称赞孙衡大公无私。

"He does not even favor his own family. He is truly a just official!"
“连亲人也不偏袒，真是个公正的好官！”

When the King of Chu learned of this, he rewarded Sun Heng generously.
楚王得知后，重重奖赏了孙衡。

But Sun Heng replied, "I serve the people, not for rewards."
孙衡却说：“我是为百姓办事，不求奖赏。”

"Selfless and fair" means being impartial, not favoring oneself or seeking personal gain.
大公无私，意思是公正无偏，不徇私情，不谋私利。

Only by treating everyone fairly can one truly earn the respect of others.
只有公平待人，才能真正赢得大家的尊重。
