A man saved up three hundred taels of silver and feared someone might steal it.
有个人存了三百两银子，怕被人偷走。
He came up with an idea and buried the silver in his yard.
他想了一个办法，把银子埋在自家院子里。
Even after burying it, he still felt uneasy, afraid someone would discover it.
埋好后，他还是不放心，总觉得有人会发现。
So, he placed a wooden sign on the spot, with the words:
于是，他在地上立了一块木牌，上面写着：
"No silver buried here, three hundred taels."
“此地无银三百两。”
He thought, "Now no one will suspect there's silver here!"
他心想：“这样写，别人一定不会怀疑。”
But his neighbor, Wang Er, saw the sign and immediately understood.
可是，隔壁的王二看到后，立刻明白了。
"If there's 'no' silver here, that means silver must be buried here!"
“既然这里‘没有’银子，那肯定藏着银子！”
That night, Wang Er quietly dug up the silver and took it away.
当天夜里，王二偷偷挖开土，把银子拿走了。
To avoid suspicion, he wrote on the back of the sign:
为了不让人怀疑，他也在木牌背后写了一句：
"Your neighbor Wang Er did not steal this."
“隔壁王二未曾偷。”
The next morning, the man discovered his silver was gone.
第二天，银子的主人发现银子不见了。
Seeing the words on the sign, he immediately knew Wang Er had stolen it.
看到木牌上的字，他立刻明白是王二偷的。
But Wang Er acted innocent and denied taking anything.
可王二却装作无辜，一口否认自己拿过银子。
The villagers heard about this and burst into laughter.
街坊邻居听说了这件事，都哈哈大笑。
"Isn't this just exposing himself?" they all said.
“这不是自己暴露自己吗？”大家议论纷纷。
From then on, "No silver buried here, three hundred taels" became a famous saying.
从此，“此地无银三百两”成了一句流传的成语。
It means that the more you try to hide something, the more obvious it becomes.
它的意思是，越想掩盖的事，越容易暴露。
Sometimes, excessive denial only makes the truth clearer.
有时候，过度否认，反而让真相更明显。
