In the state of Chu, there was a young warrior named Meng Ran.
He had trained for many years and believed he was unbeatable.
One day, he heard of a great swordsman living outside the city.
Unconvinced, he decided to challenge the swordsman.
His friends warned him, "That man is very experienced. Be careful."
But Meng Ran boasted, "My sword skills are unmatched! What is there to fear?"
He took his sword and went to the swordsman’s home.
The swordsman smiled and said, "Are you sure you want to fight?"
Meng Ran charged forward, swinging his sword with great speed.
But the swordsman dodged effortlessly, avoiding every strike.
With a simple push, the swordsman sent Meng Ran tumbling to the ground.
Shocked, Meng Ran realized he was far from being the best.
Feeling ashamed, he admitted, "I have overestimated myself."
The swordsman helped him up and said, "If you lack strength, you must train harder."
From then on, Meng Ran trained diligently and stopped boasting.
"Overestimating oneself" describes people who think too highly of their abilities and attempt things beyond their capability.
