Pure and Honest

Long ago, there was an official named Li Cheng.

He was always honest and never took bribes.

The people trusted him and believed he was a good official.

One day, someone accused Li Cheng of corruption.

The emperor was furious and summoned Li Cheng.

Li Cheng calmly said, "I am innocent and have done nothing wrong."

The emperor was doubtful and decided to investigate.

The investigators visited Li Cheng's home and found it very simple.

There was no gold or silver, only a few old books and basic furniture.

The people heard about the accusation and defended Li Cheng.

They said, "Lord Li has always been honest. He would never do such a thing!"

The investigators reported back, "Li Cheng is truly innocent."

The emperor felt ashamed and immediately reinstated Li Cheng.

Li Cheng continued to serve the people with honesty.

Those who falsely accused him were eventually punished.

The emperor sighed, "A truly honest person will always prove their innocence."

Li Cheng smiled, knowing that justice always prevails.

"A heart as clear as water" means that an honest person fears no false accusations.

Only by staying pure and upright can one earn the trust of others.
