The Blind Men Touching the Elephant

Six blind men had never seen an elephant.

One day, they heard that elephants were big and amazing.

So, they decided to go and touch an elephant together.

The first blind man touched the elephant's leg and thought it was like a pillar.

The second blind man touched the elephant's tail and thought it was like a rope.

The third blind man touched the elephant's ear and thought it was like a fan.

The fourth blind man touched the elephant's back and thought it was like a wall.

The fifth blind man touched the elephant's tusks and thought they were like long pillars.

The sixth blind man touched the elephant's trunk and thought it was like a pipe.

Each one of them thought the part they touched was the whole elephant.

So, they started arguing: “The elephant is like a pillar!”

“No, it’s like a wall!”

“Wrong, it should be like a rope!”

They argued more and more, and none of them would listen to the others.

Finally, they realized that each one of them only knew a part of the elephant.

They had never seen the whole elephant.

This story tells us that we cannot just see part of something.

We need to look at the whole picture to truly understand the truth.

If we only see part of it, we may make the wrong judgment.
