Straw, Coal, and Bean

Once, a straw, a coal, and a bean found themselves together near a fire.

The coal, nearly burnt out, said, “Let’s escape before the fire consumes us all.”

The straw, agreeing, said, “Yes, let us flee to safety together.”

The bean, who was lucky to avoid being cooked, eagerly joined the plan.

Together, they set off on their journey, vowing to help each other along the way.

They soon came across a stream that blocked their path.

The straw, being the lightest, volunteered to form a bridge for the others.

The coal went first, cautiously inching across the straw bridge.

However, as it reached the middle, the coal grew too hot and ignited the straw.

Both fell into the water with a hiss, disappearing into the stream.

The bean, left alone on the bank, began to laugh uncontrollably at the absurd scene.

It laughed so hard that it split its skin wide open.

A wandering tailor, passing by, saw the bean and took pity on it.

Using a needle and thread, he sewed the bean back together.

From that day on, beans have a seam down their side, a reminder of this ill-fated journey.
