The Crane Under the Moonlight

On a quiet winter night, beneath the full moon, a young hunter named Haru wandered through the snowy forest.

The silence was broken by the faint cry of a bird. Following the sound, Haru discovered a crane with an injured wing.

Haru knelt beside the crane and said, “Don’t be afraid. I’ll help you.”

Using his cloak, he gently wrapped the bird and carried it back to his humble cabin.

Over the next few days, Haru cared for the crane, feeding it and tending to its wing.

One night, under the moonlight, the crane healed completely and flew away.

Haru watched it disappear into the night sky, his heart both relieved and wistful.

Days turned into weeks, and one evening, a mysterious woman appeared at his door.

Her name was Tsuru, and she claimed to be a weaver traveling through the forest.

Grateful for her company, Haru invited her to stay, and soon they grew close.

Tsuru offered to weave cloth for Haru to sell in the village.

“Promise me,” she said, “you will never look while I work.”

Curious but respectful, Haru agreed. Tsuru’s cloth was unlike anything anyone had seen, shimmering like moonlight.

The villagers paid handsomely, and Haru’s fortunes improved.

However, Haru’s curiosity grew with each passing day.

One night, unable to resist, he peeked through the door to see Tsuru weaving.

To his shock, he saw a crane at the loom, pulling feathers from its body to create the magical cloth.

Tsuru noticed him and stopped. Her eyes were sad but forgiving.

“I am the crane you saved,” she said softly.

“I wanted to repay your kindness, but now I must leave.”

Haru begged her to stay, but Tsuru shook her head.

“I cannot remain in this form now that my secret is revealed.”

Under the moonlight, Tsuru transformed back into a crane and flew away.

Haru watched her disappear into the night sky, a single feather left behind in her place.

From that day on, Haru kept the feather as a reminder of the magical bond they shared.

Though he never saw Tsuru again, her story became a legend, a tale of kindness, love, and the mysteries of the moonlit forest.
