Once upon a time, in a small village, there lived a poor miller’s son named Jack.
从前，在一个小村庄里，住着一个贫穷的磨坊主的儿子，名叫杰克。
After his father’s death, Jack inherited nothing but a cat.
在父亲去世后，杰克只继承了一只猫。
Jack sighed, “What use is a cat when I have no food or money?”
杰克叹息道：“没有食物和钱，一只猫有什么用？”
The cat, however, was no ordinary feline. He spoke!
然而，这只猫并非普通的猫，它会说话！
“Master,” said the cat, “give me a pair of boots, and I will make your fortune.”

Though doubtful, Jack used his last coins to buy the cat a pair of boots.
虽然心存疑虑，但杰克用他最后的几枚硬币给猫买了一双靴子。
Wearing the boots, the cat became even more confident.
穿上靴子后，猫变得更加自信了。
“From now on, call me Puss in Boots,” he said, tipping his hat.
“从现在起，叫我穿靴子的猫，”它说道，摘下帽子行了个礼。
Puss began his plan by catching a plump rabbit from the forest.
猫的计划从森林里抓到一只肥兔子开始了。
He took it to the king, saying, “A gift from my master, the Marquis of Carabas.”
它将兔子献给国王，说道：“来自我的主人卡拉巴侯爵的礼物。”
The king was delighted, and Puss continued bringing gifts in the name of his “master.”
国王非常高兴，而猫继续以“主人”的名义送礼物。
Soon, the king became curious about this mysterious marquis.

One day, Puss told Jack, “Go to the river and pretend to drown when the king passes by.”

Jack, puzzled but trusting, did as the cat instructed.

As the king’s carriage approached, Puss cried, “Help! My master is drowning!”

The king’s guards rescued Jack and gave him fine clothes, believing he was a nobleman.
国王的卫兵救了杰克，并给他穿上了华丽的衣服，相信他是一位贵族。
The king invited Jack to ride in his carriage, and they toured the countryside.
国王邀请杰克乘上马车，并一起游览乡村。
Meanwhile, Puss ran ahead to a vast castle owned by a powerful ogre.
与此同时，猫跑到了一座属于强大食人魔的巨大城堡。
The ogre was known for his magic and his ability to transform into any creature.
这位食人魔以他的魔法和变形能力闻名，可以变成任何生物。
“Impressive,” said Puss, “but can you become something small, like a mouse?”
“真令人钦佩，”猫说道，“但你能变成小东西，比如老鼠吗？”
The ogre laughed and transformed into a tiny mouse.
食人魔大笑着变成了一只小老鼠。
Quick as lightning, Puss pounced and devoured the mouse, claiming the castle for his master.
猫如闪电般扑上去吞掉了老鼠，为主人夺下了城堡。
When the king arrived, Puss greeted him at the castle gates.
当国王到达时，猫在城堡大门迎接他说。
“Welcome to the Marquis of Carabas’s estate,” he declared proudly.
“欢迎来到卡拉巴侯爵的庄园，”它自豪地宣布。
The king was impressed and offered Jack his daughter’s hand in marriage.
国王印象深刻，并将女儿许配给了杰克。
Jack, now wealthy and respected, thanked Puss for his cleverness.
杰克现在富有且受人尊敬，他感谢猫的聪明才智。
From that day on, Puss in Boots lived a life of luxury, always ready for his next adventure.
从那天起，穿靴子的猫过上了奢华的生活，总是准备好迎接下一场冒险。
